about
Love is an emotion that can be fueled by affection, or by a sinister sadness. When love turns sour, it becomes toxic.
Toxic Love is an anthem for the confused. Anyone that has been in a
relationship knows that love can be just as heartbreaking as it can be rewarding.
Toxic Love was co-written in 2019 with Chris Killoren (Crease). Featuring funky island pop atmospheres around a somber lyrical cloud, Toxic Love provides an emotional track built upon supporting those who feel lost in their similar situations.
During the summer, recording sessions were happening every night, and the two had been working together for some time. Both came to the realization that they had recently been through tough breakups, and decided to write about it. The song highlights feelings of being drawn to someone, even though you know it would hurt you more to be with them than to be without them. A driving, funky pop beat juxtaposes the almost melancholic lyrics. The chorus drives home the message with the words “Toxic Love, I’m in too deep”, painting a picture of how something you thought once was good for you has dragged you
into a dark place. It provides comfort to those in similar situations knowing they are not alone in their endeavors.
